Hades and Persephone: The ritual never changed. Even now he would wait for her in the dark and cold, the first signs of winter tentatively taking their place. It had be centuries since Demeter accompanied her daughter. The goddess had become certain that no attempts to steal Persephone away would work. The bargain was made long ago and set in stone, never to be broken. He waited, just as before and just as he would again. He waited through the night until the morning hours, when dew had settled on the field. Then she came. Even if she were dressed as a mortal, she carried herself as the queen she was. Persephone smiled at Hades.
Long ago he stopped worrying over losing her. For Persephone always returned.
